Every time I heard the word “Corporation.” It sends a chill back to my spine and gives me a signal called Hope. Some people asked me why do I worship such organizations so much? I’ll express my reasons and thoughts in this article as short as I can.

What is Corporation?

corporation is an organization—usually a group of people or a company—authorized by the state to act as a single entity (a legal entity recognized by private and public law “born out of statute”; a legal person in legal context) and recognized as such in law for certain purposes.

News media and pop culture always depict corporations and companies as “cold-hearted and impersonal” entities. Exist for the sole purpose of reaping maximum profits, regardless of the consequences.

Yet, there is nothing particular about the corporate structure that makes them evil. A company is just a legal vehicle for the interests of its shareholders. The morale reflection of a company depends entirely on its founder and public opinion.

To earn positive public opinion, people need to be aware of the necessity and benefits of the product. This can be done through product education, advertisement, and other public relations programs.

Corporation: Humanity Hope

Decades ago, the only way to change the world was through political influences, and it was a “hard road to hell”. But now, thanks to the ease to form a company everyone has the chance to make a difference.

A corporation is a group of people (similar to an oligarchy), typically made up of board members or shareholders; who are in charge and have the power to change and bring impacts to the society.

Corporations can use their wealth to invent new technology, product, invest, and defend their interests. Once a corporation reach an exponential growth and amassed much wealth, it has the potential to rival a government or even a country.

Small companies, manufacturers and corporations had much more potential to scale in creating a better world, a task where individual brand and local community would be unable to keep up.

Technology companies like Apple revolutionize how we interact with our computers, other types of companies like Amazon revolutionize how we buy products online. Other companies like Microsoft, Tesla, SpaceX, and others contribute to a better tomorrow through the responsible use of technology.

Counter-argument: Corporations cannot overpower a nation

The Frigate Pieter and Paul of Dutch East India Company

Yes it could. But I don’t want to go to the legal things such as ‘Corporate law’ or ‘International law’ because such materials can be confusing and boring to read. This post is just my thoughts on how corporation plays a significant role for the betterment of humanity.

Many people will confuse this post content as “Can a corporation take over the role of a country?” That is not what this post is all about. There is a fundamental philosophical difference working between two entities, A corporation operates within an economy, but the government sets up the basic grounds rules for that economy.

A corporation will never overpower a country, but a coalition of corporations can overthrow an empire.

But such action is not profitable, so they make a country aligned with their interest through lobbying. To see a corporation at it’s peak of power, we have to go back to the year 1602. When the first corporation was founded.

The Vereenigde Oostindische Compagnie, more commonly known as (Dutch East Indies), was the first megacorporation (proto-conglomerate) ever to walk on this planet. They colonized many other countries, possessed the power to wage war with different nations, and have their private military – all of this was possible with support from the Dutch government.

All of this has happened before and will happen again.
